Energia incasata de placa de siliciu determina o reorganizare a structurii cristaline, cu aparitia de jonctiuni, de 500 pana la 1.000 ori mai sensibile la lumina, decat materialele actuale, in special la radiatia IR. Deoarece noul material absoarbe aproape intreaga lumina incidenta, apare negru, de unde si numele: "black silicon".

What is black silicon, you say? Well, it`s just as it sounds. Black silicon. It`s what this revolutionary new material does that`s important, starting with light sensitivity. Early indications show black silicon is 100 to 500 times more sensitive to light than a traditional silicon wafer.
